Renal Care

In the past 20 years, kidney failure has limited the quality of life of the Filipinos particularly in Negros Province. Inspired by the mission to “extend Christ’s healing to everyone ‘’Adventist Medical Center – Bacolod (formerly Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital) desired to cater the needs of our renal failure population with the latest advancement in its form of care. The Renal Care Unit started its humble beginnings in the year 1996. The unit (formerly located in 2S08, the South wing of the old building) was spearheaded by Mrs. Ivy Sian as the supervisor along with Lani Lorenzo the Nurse and Mr. Jerry Jalandoon as the technician respectively. The first and only hemodialysis machine in use was the first series’ model of GAMBRO.

Due to an increase in the number of hemodialysis patients. Adventist Medical Center – Bacolod in partnership with the GENCARE Medical Distributor installed 2 units of B Braun machines in 2000. Ms. Analyn Abito served as the General Manager for GENCARE Medical Distributor of the said year. The unit added a total of 3 B Braun machines in the years 2003, 2007, and 2010 requiring a more spacious unit. The unit was transferred from the previous Pediatric Ambulatory Services area in 2007 to the old Hemodialysis Unit in the old building in the year 2010. The Renal Care Unit added 2 machines under B Braun Avitum Phil. In 2011 making 7 units functioning for 3-4 shifts for 24 hours. In 2013, the Renal Care Unit installed 2 machines from Fresenius Medical Care. The Renal Care Unit workforce served approximately 140 regular hemodialysis patients. With a large population being served on a daily basis, challenges also grew particularly the inconvenience on the added shifts and the treatment area. Guided with the vision to be the “premiere center of healthcare in Negros Province,” Adventist Medical Center Bacolod dared to upgrade the facilities with the motive to provide excellent services that are cost- effective.

By the Almighty’s blessings, the new Renal Care Center was established in partnership with Fresenius Medical Care. The center houses 20 4008S machines with individualized televisions, new beds, dialyzer racks and reprocessing equipment, and 3 isolation rooms with one room to accommodate hepatitis B patients. The center is designed to have state-of-the-art facilities while providing a feel-at-home ambiance. It opened last July 7, 2015, and was inaugurated last August 11, 2015.

This year 2016, we are going further in healthcare with two additional latest machines installed by the Fresenius Medical Care (5008S). Today, there are 22 nurses, 3 technicians, and an aide ready to create a haven for almost 140 patients with regular hemodialysis needs and those that are just starting in their treatment as admitted patients. With an alarming number of cases per year, we hope to provide excellent services as patients share their life with us.
